Money Mindset – Rich People Hurt the Environment

Cecil the Lion

Cecil, the Lion

A while ago, this happened:

An anchor chain on the 300-foot mega-yacht, […], has destroyed almost 14,000 sq.ft of reef […]

And of course, we all remember the story of Cecil, the Lion, even though that’s been a while, too. And sadly, there are many other stories like it.

Those are the big, singular events making the news. Most damage is done by living a typcial luxury life, however.

Rich people tend to drive big cars, to travel often and far by plane, possibly hunt big game, have huge homes and gardens in arid areas that need lots of water, play golf, and they have many luxury items and food imported to them. Simply because they can. Rich people are the driving force behind poaching, and extinctions, as well.

Now, this may be called the force of market, but underlying these actions is quite often a wish to show off and display one’s wealth. That mega-yacht mentioned above? The owner has a second, even bigger one.

And many ways of displaying wealth are actually hurting the environment, nature and our home, Earth.

Do you want to be a person who hurts the Earth because they are rich?

Most people would say no. And mentally that means saying no to being rich: I do not want to become such a wasteful person.

It’s a typical trap created by a limiting belief.

You see, we all waste things already. Rich people simply do that on a much bigger scale, if they don’t care. And many of them don’t care, which is a problem. But is that because they are rich, or is this because they are uneducated, unable to appreciate nature or because they are … idiots?

Maybe it’s not because they are rich. Maybe it’s the rich idiots who cause the most problems.

And you are not an idiot. You already like nature and want to protect it. Imagine how you can do even more when you have lots of money.

Because once again, it’s all about making decisions.

We can decide to be wasteful, buy ivory or rhino horn (and break laws while doing so), hunt a lion, or build a home in an environmentally sensitive area.

Or we can decide not to, and use our money to do good and support conservation efforts. We can help establish sanctuaries, lobby for nature, fund research or do any number of things that help the environment and this planet.

So it’s time to let go of that belief, and replace it with something else. Maybe you want to pledge some of your (future) money to help Earth. I donate to a German wildlife program, for example.

Let’s tap on this.

Even though rich people are reckless in their use of resources for their luxury life, and I will never want to be that kind of person, I’m totally okay the way I am, and I now choose to know that I can spend my money just the way I want it.

Even though I hate seeing so many rich people destroy places and hunt animals to extinction, I am totally okay the way I am, and I now remind myself that money is a tool and can be used for good.

Even though I hate how destructive many rich people are, I’m totally okay the way I am, and I now choose to become rich doing what I do and to use my money wisely.

Your Turn:
How do you feel about the environment?
What kind of things do rich people do that you hate?
What happened while you were tapping?
And finally – what are you writing right now?
Would love to hear from you!
