As entrepreneurs, we know fear. It’s the steady companion of leaving our comfort zone. And you probably know the phrase: Do it scared. And I have done it scared, and I have done it inspired. But most people I know do it scared and face that same old fear every time, over and over again.
The good news is that you don’t have to.
Because fear can be released from the body. This has several advantages:
– You don’t spend so much energy keeping fear at bay
– Procrastination doesn’t have to rear its ugly head.
– You have much more energy to be creative.
– Chances are, you’ll actually get into the flow with your task.
And here’s how you do it:
1. Locate the fear in your body
Sit quiet for a moment and allow yourself to feel that fear. Just observe it, don’t fight it, don’t judge it. Find out where in your body it is concentrated, or where its home base is. This could be your stomach, your throat, or your heart. Most likely, you will have your own individual place for it. Look closely.
Get a piece of paper and write down what you found.
2. Find the color of your fear.
Now, first of all you have to know that there is no right or wrong. The color itself doesn’t even matter. It’s just important that you really allow yourself to look at that fear and see what color it has for you.
So far, my clients have used almost all imaginable colors, mostly in the dark range. So any color is fine, and if you have two, that’s also totally okay.
Write that down on your piece of paper.
3. Discover the shape of your fear.
Just with the color, there is no right or wrong. Your fear can have any shape, all you have to do is look at it and notice it. That’s all. No need to judge or interpret.
Write down the shape.
4. Start tapping
And now you use all the information you have collected to construct your tapping phrases. Write them out on your piece of paper so you don’t have to hold them in your mind.
Here’s the first example with spaces for you to put in the results of observing your fear.
Even though I have this huge fear in my
______________________________ (place in your body)
and it’s a _______________________ (color)
______________________________ (shape)
I’m okay the way I am, and I now choose to let go of this fear.
Use this for the second set-up phrase
Even though I have this huge fear in my
______________________________ (place in your body)
and it’s a _______________________ (color)
______________________________ (shape)
I’m okay the way I am and I now allow this fear to soften and flow out of my body.
Third set-up phrase:
Even though I have this huge fear in my
______________________________ (place in your body)
and it’s a _______________________ (color)
______________________________ (shape)
I’m okay the way I am and I now choose to watch this fear flow out of my body and release it completely.
Now go into the tapping round, using the information you wrote down for the tapping phrases at each one of the tapping points. Allow yourself to feel the fear, to see the color and shape. Praise the fear for working to keep you safe, then allow it to dissipate.
